Cupids step up Chase for Title
@ 2005-11-24 - 13:08:2323/11/05 Cupids 3 v 1 The Vine
Team: Mark, Newman, Tom, George, Mooney.
Goals: Mooney, Newman, George.
Assists: Newman, George, Moon.
After Bruce 'chopper' Dyer cropped himself at the weekend, Dyke was forced to rush through the loan signing of Rich Moon before Tuesday nights 11pm deadline. Mooney made an impact immediately in the game after Newman gave him the ball and he planted it, bottom right, past the despairing cat with his first touch of the ball on a five a side pitch in over six months. Minutes later, former Cupids Striker Rob Giles tried to spoil the party deflecting a shot off Newman’s out stretched leg, taking it away from headlings reach to draw level. In form Newman then made up for the deflection after Dyke laid him the ball on a proverbial platter and he duly dispatched an impressive low drive in the bottom left, 2-1. The second half saw Mooney continue to be a nuisance to the Vine defence, as they conceded bringing him down was the only way to stop him. It was moons fast footwork that released Dyke late on, who spanked a shot into the roof of the net to finish the Vine off 3-1.
Cupids confirmed their second spot and look forward to the match next week against top spot The White Lion. The Cupids will be without Dyke, who is away on international Duty, and who is reported to be doing "everything he can" to convince Moon to extend his loan.
